Our smoked mackerel is sourced from wild caught Atlantic mackerel, cut from whole fillets that have an 18-22% fat content, hot smoked at over 170F with smoke derived from the wild hardwoods of Nova Scotia and lightly cured with salt. The hot smoking process gives the fish a cooked texture that works as an appetizer, on sandwiches or as an addition to salads.
Ordered and received 4 smoked mackerel but have not tried them yet.
Finally found some decent smoked mackerel, which is increasingly hard to find around Calgary. Delivery was on time and despite the hot weather, still frozen. Will be ordering more for sure.
Mackerel was not a fish on my radar until my international students were asking me where they could buy it. Then a friend shared a fish stew that contained smoked mackerel and I loved it! So, I decided to try True North's and I am happy to say that it's excellent quality and flavourful. Anyone wondering about this fish's nutrition, mackerel contains omega-3, B-12, selenium, vitamin D and is a complete protein. Smoked mackerel fillets for dinner and breakfast. Easy to prepare for a quick and simple dinner with potatoes and salad. Also just as delicious for breakfast. Tasted sweet and juicy.
The smoked mackerel was delicious, a little bit boney, hence the 4 stars, but good, not too smokey, not salty. Very tastey.
